City Year Detroit & MLK Day

January 17, 2011 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Join City Year Detroit and United Way for Southeastern Michigan at our annual MLK Day of Service to commemorate the life and work of Dr. King.

Please join us and hundreds of other community volunteers in service projects around metro Detroit!

Important: All youth volunteers (ages 12-17) must also have a parent or guardian complete a waiver to be turned on on the day of service. The youth waiver will be made available at the end of the registration process. For more information, contact the volunteer committee at 313.874.4558.

Registration closes at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, January 12th.

Event Schedule
9:00 – 10:00 FREE Continental breakfast and volunteer check-in at Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Bricktown Service Center Building at 500 E Lafayette, Detroit MI 48226.

10:00 – 11:00 MLK Day Rally with keynote speaker Congressman-elect Hansen Clarke.

11:15-12:15 Lunch on own and travel to service project.

12:30 – 4:00 Service begins at most sites (information regarding your individual service site will be sent via email on Wednesday, January 12th).

Home Repair & Weatherization Workshop Series

A Home Repair & Weatherization Workshop Series will begin on January 22, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Recreation Center on 9844 Woodward. It is a free “Do It Yourself Home Repair Training.” All are welcome to attend. The event will begin at 10am. The workshop series will run from January 22 to March 5, 2011. NCTC Learning Lab Open House

The NCTC Learning Lab offers free GED prep/ABE, e2020, Literacy, Computer Skills, Spanish Courses, and Financial Literacy training. There is an open house on January 13 from 10am – 4pm.
