African Liberation Day
Detroit City Council Member JoAnn Watson and the 2011 African Liberation Day (ALD) Committee requests your presence at the opening activities at Cobo Center on Friday, May 27, 2011 for Detroit’s African Liberation Weekend. Opening Activities begin at 6:00 (doors opens at 5:00).
This year’s theme: “S.O.S. Emergency at Home (The Motherland & Abroad” honoring the Life & Spirit of Queen Mother (Nana Ama Manan II) E. Malkia Brantuo. Special guests, Pan Africans, and supporters from across the nation have been invited to this year’s African Liberation Weekend activities.
Friday’s program includes Keynote addresses from Dr. Maulana Karenga, Dr. Claud Anderson, and Professor Herb Boyd. Special presentations include African drummers and dancers.
Friday’s ALD General Admission is $10. Advance tickets currently are available.
