U-SAVE! IN MAY

U-SAVE! Community Food Club is a program that allows you to purchase great food at a low cost.

Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items. The Signature Box, which costs $35, has an average retail value of approximately $70. Cash, Bridge Card, Angel Food Gift Cards and Money Orders are accepted!

Orders must be paid for and placed in person at Vanguard CDC located at 2785 E. Grand Blvd. just west of I-75 on Monday thru Thursdays from 10am until 6pm, Fridays from 10am until 1pm or on-line at http://www.angelfoodministries.com any time! To view May menu click here: U-Save! May 2011 Menu

The deadline to place an order in person, at Vanguard, is May 13th. The deadline for on-line orders is May 15th. Distribution will occur on Saturday, May 21th. For more information call Vanguard CDC at 313-872-7831 ext 23.

*Mailed Money Orders must be made out to Vanguard CDC and post marked no later than the first Wednesday of the month in order to be included in that months order and mailed to Vanguard CDC 2785 E. Grand Blvd., Detroit, MI.

**Orders not picked up on designated distribution days will be donated to a food pantry.

Detroit Future Media Workshops presents: We Tell Our Own Story

This is the second installation of the free-of-charge, bi-weekly Saturday Speaker Series.

We Tell Our Own Story is an open workshop and discussion focusing on independent voices working against the mainstream to get stories from their communities heard. We’ll examine the power of storytelling in film, video, and alternative media to bring people together – as a platform for empowerment. Our panelists will go through the storytelling process, from the initial creative seed, to production, distribution, and all the love and pain along the way.

Featured speakers include:
• Rola Nashef (Director, Producer, Screenwriter – Detroit Unleaded)
• Dream Hampton (Journalist, Documentary Filmmaker – Black August)
• Rachel Falcone (Oral Historian, Multimedia Artist- Housing is a Human Right project)

Saturday, May 14, 2011 – 3:00PM to 5:00PM
at the Detroit Future Media Lab,
4126 3rd St., Detroit, MI 48201.

The mission of the series is to have community dialogue on creative communication strategies and digital justice.
The series runs every other Saturday until July 31st.

Childcare will be provided for attendants who RSVP and request it.
