We all live in a watershed. A watershed is all the land area that is drained by a river system. A watershed plan recommends how water resources, such as the Detroit River, can be protected and improved as land uses change. Creating a watershed plan is an approach we can use to evaluate our watershed conditions and implement projects to improve the health of our watershed. We hope you will join us in this initial conversation.
1) Introduction (Melissa Damaschke, Sierra Club & Khalil Mogassabi, City of Detroit Planning and Development Department)
- What is a watershed?
- What does a watershed plan look like?
- How are watershed plans developed?
- What are the benefits of planning by watershed?
- Who funds watershed plans?
- Where in the Detroit area are there watershed plans and where are there gaps?
- Is it appropriate to create a watershed plan to receive Section 319 money of the Clean Water Act?
- If so, what are the next steps?
