Winning Futures
Male Mentors are needed for fall programming in the following schools: Cass Tech, Harper Woods High, Pontiac High, and Community High in Warren….
Why more men are needed :
- There is a shortage of male mentors, students are looking for male role models.
- Many young people are coming from homes where there is an absence of a positive male role model for any number of reasons. Male mentors help to bridge this gap.
- Male mentors are needed to share their work experiences, knowledge and skills if we want to build a competent and skilled work force.
- Male mentors can help boys to bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world of work.
- Think of the types of important talks you have had with other men. Now, imagine a young boy not having that opportunity. You can provide that for them.
How often are we provided a unique opportunity to “Pass It On” or to share the qualities that make each of us so special? Please consider this remarkable opportunity of pass it on!!! For more info call (586) 698-4536 or visit our website: http://www.winningfutures.org/.
Important Section 8 Information – Ann Arbor Housing Commission Waitlist
The Ann Arbor Housing Commission’s Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly known as Section 8) Tenant Based preapplication will open on Monday August 27, 2012 at 8:00 am until Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 8:00 am. Applicants can apply at any time during this pre-application period. After the pre-application time period is closed, 500 pre-applicants will be selected by a random lottery. These 500 pre-applicants will be reviewed to determine if the applicant is eligible for the waitlist. All other pre-applicants will be removed from the process and must apply again when the waitlist is reopened. Submission of a pre-application does not guarantee placement on the waitlist, and placement on the waitlist does not guarantee eligibility or an offer of housing. As vouchers become available, the 500 pre-applicants that have been screened for the waitlist will be notified in the order they were put on the waitlist. A full intake and eligibility determination will be completed at that time, prior to issuing a voucher.
How to Apply:
Apply online at www.a2gov.org/housingcommission from any computer with Internet access. A person with a disability may require an accommodation to have equal access to this program. If a reasonable accommodation is needed, please call (734) 794-6720 to request the specific accommodation prior to the waitlist opening.
Urge Your Friends to Sign Our Transit Bill of Rights!
For far too long, the people of greater Detroit have suffered from insufficient quantity and quality of transit service, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without reliable access to jobs, job training, and other necessities. We demand better. DDOT, SMART, the People Mover, and any new transit service provider must meet a higher standard of service.
So TRU created a new Transit Bill of Rights declaring our right to:
- Reliable, on-time service
- Full accessibility
- Safe, clean, well-lit and well-maintained vehicles and facilities
- Public involvement in transit decision-making
- and much more
With help from TRU’s interns and volunteers, our allies and partners, and advocates like you, we plan to get over 3,000 people signed onto this statement of rights. We’ve got 1,000 so far, but still need your help!
Please sign onto the Transit Bill of Rights.
Make sure to urge your friends to do the same!!
This fall, we will present these signatures to transit agencies and decision makers to express our demands and press them for action to achieve these rights for all who use and benefit from transit in Southeast Michigan. Thanks for helping us demonstrate the broad will of the region to demand better transit!
