M-1 Rail Open House
MDOT & FTA are hosting a Public Open House about the M-1 Rail Streetcar Project:
Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, 3 pm-7 pm
(Guests can stop by anytime. There is no formal presentation.)
at the MSU Detroit Center, 3408 Woodward Ave.
(two blocks south of Mack Ave in midtown Detroit)
This event will provide an update on the M-1 Rail (Woodward Avenue) Streetcar Project, a 3.3 mile streetcar line proposed along Woodward Avenue between Downtown and the New Center areas of Detroit. The project will serve 11 curbside stations for nearly the entire length of the route, transitioning to center-running at the north and south ends of the system. The project would support possible future extensions north of the project terminus, including future Regional Rapid Transit. More information is available at www.michigan.gov/mdotstudies.
FTA and MDOT is beginning to prepare a supplemental Environmental Assessment on this new version of the project, as it differs from the 9.3 mile Woodward Light Rail project that had been previously analyzed. They are seeking public input on potential impacts of the proposed project, especially on historic buildings, neighborhoods, and the local environment.
For meeting accomodations, contact MDOT’s Bob Parsons at 517-373-9534. With questions, contact SEMCOG’s Mike Spence (313-324-3401).
