REQUEST FOR APPLICANTS–PROSPERUS DETROIT PROGRAM MANAGER
SOUTHWEST HOUSING SOLUTIONS

Description of the ProsperUS Detroit Microenterprise Development Program
The ProsperUS Detroit Microenterprise Development Program is a groundbreaking initiative focused on building long-term relationships with low-income African-American and immigrant entrepreneurs, based on the highly successful model developed by the Neighborhood Development Center, located in Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota. The program offers entrepreneur training courses, coaching, access to microloans (for eligible applicants only), and assistance from free or low-cost small business technical assistance providers (e.g., legal assistance, accountants, marketing consultants, graphic designers, etc.).

This in-depth, high-touch, place-based approach is distinguished from other microenterprise development programs by its capacity to connect with, and assist, entrepreneurs in low-income, minority-based neighborhoods.

While all ProsperUS Detroit entrepreneurs have untapped talents and skills, most have barriers that inhibit success. Through highly-skilled staffing, culturally competent programming, and ongoing technical assistance, the program is designed to overcome historic obstacles for entrepreneurs so that they can begin rebuilding their neighborhoods from within.
